member Dr. Tom Simpson

May 28, 2008

I’m sad to report the loss of our friend and member, Tom Simpson.  Tom was an icon in the park, always busy and full of adventure.  My wife and I first met Tom in the late 1980’s and I have fond memories of windsurfing with Tom and joining him on flights to Mill Bay.  To say Tom was active, is an understatement.  He was always on his bicycle, playing tennis or conversing with a member.  I will always remember his contagious laugh.   We miss you Tom.

after a hard day of competition

May 27, 2008

The gathering every evening is part of the Mill Bay experience.  Lots of talk, a few cocktails and bragging of competitive victories in the sporting events of the day.  It’s part of the training any good Mill Bay Member needs to prepare for another perfect day at Mill Bay Resort.

The 1st official Mill Bay Members horseshoe tournament was held last Sunday.  Van Botts recruited competitors, studied the rules and organized the event.  There was the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat and a whole lot of fun.

Overall winning team was Norm Beler and Bob Fitzjarrald.  Participants included:  Van & Teresa Botts, Norm and Ginger Beler, Doug and Becky Gibbs, Jerry Anderson and grandson Justin, Bob Fitzgarrald, Dick Swier and Reid Kinne.

are you ready for some water volleyball?

May 20, 2008

The pool is ready and the members are ready for the hottest sport at Mill Bay Resort.  Get ready to spike the ball, make a splash and pick your team.  There is a new volleyball net in the pool and members are lined up to play.

We have our park co-host Bob Fitzjarrald as pool caretaker for 2008.  Bob has been working hard to get the pool ready and has the pool sparkling for Memorial Day weekend.

Get ready to have some fun!

electrical fixes on the expanded sites

May 12, 2008

Over the past three years the expanded sites have been experiencing electrical outages due to inadequate wiring that supplied only 30 amp service to the sites.  On Friday we began digging to prepare installation of new wiring and new breaker boxes.  We hope to have the project completed in the next two weeks.  Meanwhile we appologize to members Bill & Paula Acomb, who have the campsite that was targeted for the dig.

lake pump started – lawns will stay green

May 12, 2008

With the lake level barely high enough to draw water, we were able to prime one of the pumps and put some water on the lawns yesterday.  What a relief!  Hot weather is coming next weekend.

I want to thank the new MA8 golf course manager, Marcus Seal, for his cooperation and assistance in making it happen.  Marcus has been a pleasure to work with.  He and his wife (who was out mowing greens on mother’s day) along with their four young boys, ages 10 and under, are working hard to return the golf course to its potential as a fun family place to play.  We all wish them success and they will have our assistance whenever possible.
